2. Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Pilot Projects -- Bob Renken (Miami) sought out experts involved with ASR microbiological research. When Bob discovered that Simon Toze, a researcher on this subject from Australia, was visiting in Orlando in May, he set up a workshop and presentation by Toze with over 40 attendees from federal, state and local agencies.
3. Lake Belt In-ground Storage Pilot Project -- Presentations by Jim Flocks (St. Pete) on the use of water-based seismic reflection and continuous water resistivity profiling and Kevin Cunningham (Miami) on use of land-based seismic reflection profiling highlighted potential support that the USGS could provide the pilot project.
4. Florida Bay Feasibility Study -- Clinton Hittle's (Miami) participation in the Feasibility Study gave the USGS an opportunity to explain the importance of measured flow and salinity data along the south Florida coastline. USGS flow and salinity data collected in Florida Bay will be used for Feasibility Study evaluations.
5. Aquifer Storage and Recovery Pilot Projects - Ron Harvey (Boulder, CO), expert in microbial transport, provided technical review of the "fate of microorganisms in aquifer" study conducted as part of the pilot projects.
6. RECOVER Model Refinement Team - Three USGS scientists presented results of their modeling and data collection efforts to address concerns that many models of south Florida do not accurately simulate flow, particularly, in tidal area. Eric Swain (Miami) discussed the SICS model and how this dynamic model simulates flow in tidal areas. Harry Jenter (Reston, VA) showed the results of data collection and model calibration in marsh environments. Eduardo Patino (Ft. Myers) described USGS methods for measuring flows in tidal areas.
7. Wastewater Reuse Technology Pilot Project - Mike Meyer (Ocala), at the request of the project team, will make a presentation about emerging contaminants, their potential accumulation in the wetlands, and the need for treatment of effluent prior to release to the ecosystem.
8. CERP Data Management (DM) Programmatic Activity - Gail Clement (Miami), a data management expert, was invited by the DM team to describe her work on the Florida Ecosystem Digital Gazetteer, an information technology that will map between indirect geospatial references, and the South Florida Ecosystem Thesaurus, a document that controls terminology and categories for classifying concepts relating to the South Florida ecosystem. The team then agreed to use the Gazetteer and Thesaurus as primary content standards for CERP data management activities.
