Raccoon Point Field Trip, Big Cypress National Preserve Feb.2, 2004

When: February 2–5, 2004

Where: Keys Gate Golf and Country Club, 2300 Palm Drive, Homestead FL.
From U.S.1 in Florida City drive east on Palm Drive approximately 3 miles.

Why: Review and discuss current fire management and research in pineland ecosystems, with an emphasis on pine rocklands, in South Florida and the Bahamas.  The results of discussions will be used to create a vision, goals, and action items for a new working group focused on fostering pine rockland fire ecology research and informed management practices.

Schedule

Food: Continental breakfast, sandwich bar lunches and coffee will be arranged for Tuesday and Wednesday. All other meals are the responsibility of attendees.

The Nature Conservancy has received a private donation to provide the meeting space and feed 50 participants two meals for two days. As an incentive for early registration, the first 50 participants to register will have these meals covered at no charge. Additional participants will be requested to make a donation to The Nature Conservancy of $5.25/breakfast and $10.95/lunch to cover these costs. 

Lodging: Lodging is the responsibility of attendees. However, below is a list of suggestions.

Field Trips: All field trips will include walking over rugged terrain, potential exposure to toxic plants and biting insects and remote locations. Weather may range from 90 degrees and sunny to 40 degrees and rainy. Please be prepared.

Vans and/or carpooling will be used for transportation.
