H20 Project: A Community Forum Giving Voice to Water
On 25 September, the 621 Gallery and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will convene a panel of experts to discuss local water resources in the Tallahassee area. The panel is part of the 621 Gallery's increasing emphasis on public education associated with its exhibits. The Gallery's current exhibit, entitled "H20 Project," is a diverse expression of the aesthetic, functional, and spiritual values of water.
The panel will consist of five presentations. The first involves a brief introduction of the local watersheds and the water cycle. The second presentation identifies the main surface and ground water resources of the area. The third presentation introduces the main land use categories in the area and their relationship to surface and ground water resources. The final two presentations examine the water infrastructure created by people and the human influences on the area's water resources.
The presentations will be followed by 30 minutes of questions and discussion. After the formal panel meeting, the audience and panelists will move to the 621 Gallery for a brief reception and continued discussion.
During presentations, two background slide shows will be running. One will introduce an overlay map for each topic: 1) watershed boundaries; 2) ground and surface water resources; 3) land use; and, 4) water infrastructure. The second slide show will use supporting visuals selected by each of the five speakers or images from the art exhibit itself.
The event is designed for residents and visitors interested in increasing their understanding and appreciation of the invaluable and unique water resources of the area.
